Louis H. Brownstone, Chairman, (Certified in Long Term Care)

In 1997, Louis founded Northstar’s parent company, California Long Term Care Insurance Services(CLTC). As one of the first company companies to recognize the need for Americans to obtain long term care protection, CLTC soon became the largest independent long term care specialist insurance agency in California.

Today, Louis is recognized as an industry leader, with articles appearing frequently in California Broker Magazine. He is past chairman of the National LTC Network, an association of the largest long term brokerages in the United States and the largest distributor of long term care plans.

He also serves as Chair of the Sales Track of the Intercompany Long Term Care Insurance Convention, the leading convention in this industry.

Louis holds degrees from Andover and Stanford. Prior to his career in insurance, Louis served as an executive in his family’s business, a successful retail apparel company that sold its 63 stores in 1986 and 1988.

A native San Franciscan and fourth generation Californian, Louis resides in San Mateo with his wife, Caroline, an international consultant. They have raised six children, and now have seven grandchildren. Contact Louis today.

Allan Farovitch, President

Allan joined ACSIA Insurance Services in 1982 after a four year relationship with Mutual of Omaha. As one of the top long term care salesmen in the United States, Allan was recognized as a top producer from 1982 through 1991.

Allan successfully ran his own agency, first hiring agents in the San Francisco Bay Area and then expanding throughout California, Allan merged with California Long Term Care Insurance Services in November, 1997.

Born in Montreal and raised in Los Angeles, Allan resides in San Rafael, where his wife, Roberta Steiner, is highly involved in community affairs. Allan and Roberta take great pride in their two sons. Contact Allan today.

Katie O’Rourke, Managing Partner (Certified in Long Term Care)

Katie has worked in the insurance industry since 1987 as both a salesperson and a manager. She has specialized in long term care planning since 1991. Today, Katie speaks at numerous conventions and has become recognized as one of the leading women in her industry.

A graduate of Indiana University, School of Business, Katie also has an extensive background in training and office management. Katie’s commitment to the long term care insurance industry was motivated by the hardship her family faced when her grandmother needed care in an assisted living facility.

In addition, her insight and compassion into why families needs protection from critical illness was tragically heightened by the loss of her brother to cancer while only in his forties.

Jim Grauel, Director of Sales

Jim Grauel, Director of Sales

Jim has an extensive career in the insurance industry, starting as an agent in Toledo, OH in 1993, then moving into the Home Office in Lincoln, NE where he found success as Training Supervisor, Director of Training, Director of Sales, Regional Sales Manager, and then as a Division Manager with his own office.

Jim’s product knowledge covers all the major individual insurance programs, Annuities, Critical Illness, Disability, Life, Long Term Care, and Medicare Supplements. Having seen his grandparents go through difficult times as they aged and not being able to help has motivated Jim to work hard to help agents  fully protect their clients. He has a real passion for helping people receive benefits if they have a critical situation.

Born and raised in the heartland of America, Jim currently resides in Northern California, just outside of Sacramento where he helps his wife Kim raise their four daughters.

Donna Martindale – Director of Marketing

Donna Martindale – Director of Marketing

Donna began her career in 1986 working for ACSIA Insurance Services, and rose from a clerical position to Assistant Vice President. She left ACSIA in 2000 when the firm relocated and became the Manager of Contracting and Licensing for GE Capital Assurance in San Rafael, CA, overseeing a major work center. Donna left GE Capital in 2002 when that firm relocated and joined LISI, an insurance brokerage in San Mateo, as Operations Manager.

But her main love is long term care insurance, and she became a member of the Northstar Network team in 2007. Donna has done it all, and her experience and dynamic personality constitute a major asset to Northstar. She lives in Belmont with her children and is a San Francisco native.
